SPEAKER BI-CHU WU
Speaker Wu, Bi-chu was born in Taipei in 1949 and has a bachelor's
degree in sociology.
In 1981, she was elected to this council. Since her first term, she
has been very conscientious in watching over the municipal budget. She is
both knowledgeable and courteous. Her personal motto is: " Being content
makes a heart happy, having few desires gives one a good disposition." She
has served as a councilor from the Fourth to the Eighth Council of Taipei.
Being a councilor, she is known to be frank , and to keep her promises.

On December 25, 1994, she was elected as the Deputy Speaker of
the Seventh Council - the first woman deputy speaker in this council's
history. And On December 25, 1998, she was elected as the Speaker of the
Eighth Council and became the first woman Speaker of the Special
Municipality in the democratic history of the country. She was reelected
as the Speaker for the Ninth and Eleventh Council on December 25, 2002 and 2010 respectively.
