With the rapid advancement of modern digitalization and globalization, interactions between cities and those between countries are now more quick and close. This is an important duty for Taipei City to develop relationships with its international counterparts. Taipei City Council values the international friendship very much and strive to expand civil diplomatic relationships via actual and active exchanges with the councils of other foreign cities and promote results of Taipei’s development when visiting other cities to gain more international understanding and support, which the City Council has been committing to do.

To promote international friendship and strengthen cultural exchanges, Taipei City has now established close ties with 49 sister cities,

3 partner cities, and 5 friendship cities. Please see below for the name of the cities and dates of affiliation : 

12 sister cities in the US are Huston, San Francisco, Guam, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Marshall, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Boston, and Dallas.

13 sister cities in Latin America and the Caribbean region are Santo Domingo, Tegucigalpa, San Jose, Asunción, Panama City, Managua, San Salvador, San Nicolas, La Paz, Guatemala City, Quito, Castries and Belmopan. 

4 European sister cities are Versailles, Warsaw, Vilnius, and Riga.

9 sister cities in the Asia Pacific Region are Manila, Seoul, Quezon City, Jeddah, Gold Coast, Ulan-Ude, Ulaanbaatar, Majuro, and Daegu.

11 African sister cities are Lome, Cotonou, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Lilongwe, Dakar, Banjul, Bissau, Mbabane, Monrovia, and Ouagadougou.
